Acrylic painting by Laura Tetrault "Mirage?"

Mirage? is one of those paintings I think has many layers to it. It’s partly because of that, that I am hesitant to talk too much about it. I’d hate to shatter your perception of what is actually going on here – what the story is inside this young woman’s mind.

But I will tell you that the inspiration for mirage was found in the pages of a magazine – and it started with a woman gazing into a mirror as her posed family lounged in different parts of the photo. I kept her hair, head and neck and changed just about everything else as I painted her and thought about what kind of woman she was. She is much more complicated than just another vain mirror lover.

I hope you enjoy unravelling her stories as much as I did.
